PDRN is having a moment. It started as an in-clinic treatment in Korea, and now it's in serums, creams and masks everywhere.
Here's what it is, what to expect from it in a bottle, and three picks to try. We haven't tested these hands-on. Picks are based on Amazon listings, brand info, published reporting and buyer reviews.
This is general info, not medical advice.
For a first try, the medicube PDRN Pink Peptide Serum puts salmon PDRN near the top of its ingredient list. Prefer fragrance-free? Get the ANUA PDRN cream. For a weekly glow boost, add the BIODANCE overnight mask.
What is PDRN?
PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide) is made of small DNA fragments, usually from salmon. On an ingredient list, look for sodium DNA. In Korea, it's best known from in-clinic treatments, and skincare brands have been racing to put it in everyday products. Korean beauty retailer Olive Young reported that PDRN searches on its site jumped 695% year over year during its late-summer 2025 sale (per Yonhap).
Does PDRN skincare work?
Keep expectations realistic. Most PDRN research looks at injections and in-clinic treatments, not creams. In a serum or moisturizer, think of PDRN as one hydrating, skin-comforting ingredient, and judge the product on its whole formula. What you can expect: softer, plumper-looking skin from good hydration. What you shouldn't expect: a facelift in a bottle.
Salmon vs plant PDRN
Salmon PDRN
The classic version. medicube and Anua both use salmon-derived PDRN (per each brand). Skip it if you have a fish allergy, or ask your doctor first.
Plant PDRN
Some brands use plant sources instead. The Dr.Althea 345 Relief Cream (Ver.2) lists sodium DNA that Dr.Althea describes as rice bran PDRN.
medicube also sells a vegan Rose PDRN version of its pink serum with a different formula. The listing we link is the salmon version, so check the box if PDRN is why you're buying.
Where collagen masks fit
The BIODANCE mask isn't PDRN. It's a hydrogel mask built around low-molecular collagen and hyaluronic acid (per BIODANCE). Collagen on your skin hydrates the surface; it doesn't add collagen to your skin. It's popular anyway: LookFantastic's 2026 sales data put it up about 331% year over year (published Oct 2026).
How to fit PDRN into your routine
- Serum after toner. Pat a few drops of the medicube serum onto clean skin.
- Cream to finish. The ANUA cream works as your last step morning and night (per Anua). Add SPF in the morning.
- Mask once in a while. On mask nights, put the BIODANCE mask on clean skin as your last step and leave it on overnight, or for at least 3 to 4 hours (per BIODANCE).
Patch-test first: try each new product on a small spot, like along your jaw, for a few days before using it all over. Add one new product at a time.

FAQ
What is PDRN in skincare?
PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide) is made of small DNA fragments, usually from salmon, listed as sodium DNA on labels. In serums and creams, it's used as a hydrating, skin-comforting ingredient.
Is PDRN really salmon sperm?
Often, yes. Most skincare PDRN comes from salmon DNA, and some formulas also list milt extract (from salmon sperm). Plant versions exist too, like the rice bran PDRN in Dr.Althea's 345 Relief Cream Ver.2.
Does PDRN skincare actually work?
Most PDRN research looks at injections and in-clinic treatments, not creams. In a serum or moisturizer, expect better hydration and softer-looking skin, not dramatic changes.
Can I use PDRN if I have a fish allergy?
Salmon-derived PDRN comes from fish, so skip it or ask your doctor first. A plant-based PDRN product may be an option.
Can I use PDRN with retinal or exfoliating acids?
PDRN isn't an acid or an exfoliant, so it's usually easy to layer. Still, add one new product at a time and patch-test first.
How often should I use the BIODANCE mask?
Whenever your skin needs a boost; once a week is a nice rhythm. BIODANCE says to wear it overnight, or for at least 3 to 4 hours.
